Signs, Vol. 2

I passed this yesterday out here in beautiful Colorado, and just BARELY got the shot off. I decided it was worth adding to the collection. For an explanation, go to talk to Baxter & Winnie.

Posts from the road are generally shorter, as I have to write them from my phone. I have a couple stories up the sleeve, so check back.

The Road to Salida: 3/5/09

I write to you from the very center of the Rocky Mountains. To my left, a treacherous climb looms, to my right, certain death awaits. A moment ago I was impatient, anxious for arrival in civilization and the warm welcome of cell service, but I took a brief step back and checked my perspective, which was narrower than the road we’re currently traveling, and allowed myself to remember what a luxury it is to see the world from these winding passages. In an attempt to capture the majesty, we hopped out of the car for a brief photo op. This is the best the iPhone had to offer:

Oh bad knees…

A little over two years ago I tore my patellar ligament in my right knee, and it has returned to haunt me. Last night I sprained it due to completely unnecessary rock ‘n’ roll behavior of a violent nature in my hotel room (get your mind out of the gutter… I was throwing my clothes around wildly… GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER!) I’ll need to acquire an ace bandage and some pain killers, but I’ll be fine. I also need to make sure I consume less than 1600 calories per day due to my upcoming lack of physical exercise. Does anyone know how to let these things heal PROPERLY?

Oh Doubletree…

doubletree_hotels_sweet_dreams_bed_gold_promoThine bountiful branches hath satisfied my slumber. For restful sleep I am grateful. I swam unconsciously in the clouds of your Sweet Dreams bed, and this morning I rose afresh, and ready to stare down the challenges of day on the road. Thanks Doubletree for rising above the rest and providing as such. See you again soon?

A Toast

To you, Jeremy Riddle, may new heights be reached in the success of your latest release, and to a long and prosperous career. May your purposeful wanderings touch many a heart, and put food on my table for many a meal. Cheers!!

F.U.T.S.A. Vol. 1

Dear George W:

Thanks, from the bottom of my heart, for another one of your “brilliant” ideas. You make my life difficult daily. You managed to facilitate one of the  biggest wastes of time and money in our nation’s history… well, besides the War On Terror (oil). Thanks to you, sir, millions of travelers spend at least an extra half hour in the airport daily, which sums up to be a perfect illustration of the inefficiency that was your presidency. Ouch.

To make matters worse, hundreds of musicians like myself have to deal with this day in and day out:

what it's supposed to look like:

This is one of my delay pedals. Apparently one thick-skulled individual thought this was some sort of explosive terrorist apparatus, and decided to try and defuse it by ripping it to shreds. BTW, the metal piece on in the 2nd picture was a fix that my handy-man dad came up with the FIRST TIME TSA broke it…                  …I stopped typing just now because the only words rolling off the tongue in my brain shouldn’t be uttered about anyone… anyone except the TSA.  So i verbalized it, but I won’t type them.  For crying (swearing) out loud, do you have any idea how much pressure has to be applied to rip through metal like that? It’s not really possible unless you’re jumping on a freaking 15 lb pry bar like your kid was pinned underneath a railroad tie with a train barreling down the tracks. WTF TSA?

here are a few examples of the power they wield (read: frequently abuse):

ps. To those of you who have already read this under the old title “I hate TSA,” I’ve changed the name to a self-explanatory acronym. This will be the first post of probably many under the new title, in which I will share with you my experiences.

pss. Feel free to share any horror stories of your own in the comments section. Hell, maybe I’ll even compile them and start a whole separate blog dedicated to the exposure of such travesties.

More album covers

Boring entry title, fun game. In case you missed it, scroll down or click here for an explanation of what’s going on. Some of our designers take it a little more seriously than others, but at least they’re good at it. I won’t name names this time. Largely because I’m lazy. Scroll on.

UNbelievable. I'm almost not sure I believe it (i guess that's the definition of the word).

ps. I made brownies last night for our little cookie/movie party and it turned out to be quite the fiasco. More on that coming soon as well.

pss. The forecast predicted snow, and it was SO far off. Go outside. Clean out your car. Go for a run.

ThisIsMyRandomlyCreatedBand’sNewCD

Since I’m procrastinating rather randomly, I’ll continue the theme with this post. Here’s a little something to kickstart your weekend.

We’ve all seen the “25 Random Things” note taking over Facebook. I’ll admit it can be mildly entertaining, but really it just got annoying. Most of the time, I either already knew all of it, or I just didn’t care. I got bored with it, and I never even did it!

Enter “ThisIsMyRandomlyCreatedBand’sNewCD.” Now, someone needs to think of a better name than that, but it’s still fun. Here’s how it works:

THIS IS MY RANDOMLY CREATED BAND’s NEW CD: Generate your own.

To Do This:

1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random article”
in the sidebar.
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

This guy got it started (at least in my world).

Here’s mine:

Michelle Russell’s:

PS. Jaako Laasko actually has the same birthday as Michelle. creepy..

Aaron Hale’s (possibly my favorite):

cover-41

While it IS a complete waste of time, it’s a fantastic one. If you get the itch, follow the directions, post it on facebook, and tag me! If these keep popping up I’ll more than likely keep putting them on here.

Slap your boss on your way out. Here’s to slow weekend blog traffic.

Randoms

I made this for the 4th day in a row, and I ain’t sick of it yet.

I made these a week ago, and while my wallet thankful for leftovers, my taste buds are growing impatient with repitition. Maybe it’s time for another trip to TJ’s.

It has been brought to my attention by this guy that FedEx has an arrow subliminally, and ingeniously placed in the logo. Observe:

fedex_logo

Apparently there’s a lot of debate on FedEx’s deliberation or lack there of when it comes to the placement of the arrow. I say who cares. I don’t care. I think I like it though. Either way, you should go to Dave’s show tonight at Exit/In if you live in Nashvegas.

I have a lot to do today. I’m procrastinating like never before… actually, just like many other times in my life. Many. I should be doing my taxes.

Anyways, I’m out. I’m off to man the front lines in the epic battle between motivation and distraction. I’m going to call in caffeinated air strike first though.

ps Fun blog coming later about album covers.

Plus One

No. I’m glad you asked. I’m most definitely not talking about the CCM boy band. I’m talking about the mad Twitter props being tossed around like money during a recession. @reply with it to praise your witty friends, but use it sparingly. Check out Jason’s fine blog for further explanation. If you want, you can follow me on Twitter and put your new vocabulary into action.

Thank Andy M for his ingenuity. Thank Jason, Annie, and me for sponsoring (overusing) it.

Digital getdown.
